Things You Need To Know About Healing Today

And What Some Think and Teach

We read stories in the Bible about people being healed and wonder if divine healing is still available today. Some teach that it was only for Bible times. Others teach that it’s not always God’s will to heal. So, it may not be God’s will to heal me. Some pastors or teachers state that, like Paul, we may need to endure our sickness. Or maybe it’s a better idea to be in a healing line where an “anointed Man of God” is praying for the sick. Still, others teach that we have to have enough faith to be healed. If we didn’t get healed we didn’t have enough faith.

Divine Healing Is Still For Today

“Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalms 119:89

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8.

“And by His stripes, we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5b

If God’s Word is forever settled in heaven and Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever and by His stripes we are healed, it stands to reason that there is still divine healing today.

It looks different because Jesus, Himself in His physical body, isn’t walking the streets and highways speaking to or touching people to heal them, but divine healing is still taking place. It is the right and responsibility of every Christian to heal the sick.

“…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”  Mark 16:18b

Jesus purchased our healing and health at the whipping post before he paid the debt for our salvation from sin on the cross.

Isa 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.”

In 1 Peter 2:24, Peter referenced the prophecy given by Isaiah which referred to Jesus taking our sins when he was crucified. Isaiah also states that we were healed by the stripes that Jesus took on his body.

1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

In Matthew’s gospel, he states that Jesus casting out devils and healing the sick is a fulfillment of the prophecy given by Isaiah in Isa 53:4-5.

Matt 8:16-17 “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”

Some teach that healing is not for today, that the healing miracles ended with the apostles or the early church. But, Matthew, under divine inspiration, referred back to Isaiah’s prophecy thereby stating that healing was linked to salvation. Peter referred to the prophecy in Isaiah 53:5 stating that it had already been completed.

If healing isn’t for today then salvation from sin would also not be available today because they are linked together in Jesus’s torture at the whipping post, death on the cross, and resurrection.

Faith For Healing

This means that the faith we have when we accept Jesus as our savior is the same faith needed for total healing. Jesus does not have healing to give to us, He is our healing. So, if we have accepted Jesus as our personal savior we also have faith for healing.

In the New Testament, after Jesus’s death and resurrection, Christians were NOT told to “have faith.” Therefore, Christians do not have a faith problem. We have all been given a measure of faith as stated in Romans 12:3.

Still Not Healed, Why

Many still ask, “Why am I not healed?”  I believe Jesus is my healer. I have asked him for healing. I have been prayed for in healing lines. “Why am I still sick or why do I still have a physical problem?”

Ephesians 1:3 states that God has given us every spiritual blessing, which includes healing than “What do I need to do or what am I missing?”

Isa. 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.”

1 Peter 2:24 says, “by whose stripes ye were healed.”

It doesn’t say if we pray hard enough.

It doesn’t say if we have enough faith.

It doesn’t say if we’re in the right healing line we’ll be healed.

It says, “we were healed.”

It’s already finished.

We Need To Stand

Curry Blake (JGLM. org) says we need to stand. What exactly does that mean? How do we stand? What do we need to do?

After listening to Curry and Anita Orr, I’m beginning to see that we need to use God’s authority and His Word to drive out the enemy that is trying to keep us sick. Once we successfully drive him out and keep him out we are healed and can live in divine health.

I’ve discovered it’s not as easy as it sounds. Some of us have learned to live with sickness and disease. We are accustomed to hearing the enemy’s voice say, “Oh, my headache is back,” or something similar and we repeat the enemy’s words.

When we repeat his words we have chosen the path of pain and sickness instead of healing.

A few months ago, for whatever reason, my foot and ankle were hurting. It was difficult to walk. I asked Anita how to get rid of the enemy. She said, “Tell him to leave.” Is it really that simple? No.

Once you tell him to leave, you have to stand on it. Again, how do you stand?

How To Stand

I went to James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

I made it personal, “I am submitted to God, therefore pain you have to leave now.” And followed it up with 1 Peter 2:24 “by Jesus’ stripes I was healed, therefore, I am healed.”

I would get up at night and my ankle would not hold my weight, so every time I would go through a similar routine.

“Pain, I told you to leave you can’t come back according to James 4:7 and I am healed by the stripes Jesus took on his body according to 1 Peter 2:24. Thank you Jesus for healing my ankle.”

After doing this for a few weeks, the pain was totally gone and I have had no more problems.

Standing on the Word

I am learning that it’s not just a matter of saying “be healed.” It’s a matter of standing on the Word and continuing to stand by telling the enemy, “No, I told you to go, now get out and don’t come back.” I’ve discovered that it does take time for the enemy to realize we’re serious and he has to leave.

Curry said that if we’ve had sickness or disease for a long time it may take longer. The enemy thinks he is welcome in our bodies. We have to keep at it until he gets the message that we are serious and leaves and does not come back.

Also, with long-term sickness or disease, we get accustomed to the problems. It becomes part of us. That’s when the enemy takes up permanent residence, or so he thinks.

My husband and I help each other by calling attention to any word we say that is negative. This gives us the opportunity to correct our speech. Curry also says to watch what we say and make sure it represents Jesus as our healer and does not exalt the enemy.

The enemy, sickness and disease, is a squatter. It is our responsibility to use God’s Word and authority to drive him out, then stand at the door, and not allow him back in.
